CalDAV / CardDAV

The What

CardDAV and CalDAV are the prompts you receive after signing into your faculty or staff email on an iOS device. It asks for a password that is not the password used for your sign-in.

The Why

Google requires two-step verification to use the default iOS mail and calendar applications for your employee email. The Gmail and Google Calendar apps do this authentication step for you.

The Fix

There are two methods to get rid of the prompt for good. The first is if you use the G Suite apps, which we recommend, and the second is for if you need to use the default iOS apps.

If you use the Gmail and Google calendar apps (shown on the right) then you will need to follow the first guide labeled "Disable CalDAV and CardDAV." This is the easier and shorter process and requires you to go into the accounts page on your device and just disable the profiles since they do not need to be authenticated for the iOS applications.

You will need to follow the second guide below labeled "Enable CalDAV and CardDAV" if you use the default iOS mail and calendar apps (shown on the left). This requires you to generate an app password from a computer to then input into the settings app on your iOS device in order to authenticate the login. This is the longer process, and the one we do not recommend.

Tutorial 1: Disable CalDAV and CardDAV

1) Open the settings on the device

2) Scroll down and open "Mail"

3) Select "Accounts"

4) Select the first occurrence of your staff email (Calendar, Reminders)

5) Un-check both Email and Calendar and delete the content (It isn't actually syncing)

6) Do the same disabling for the other occurrence of your email on the page before (Contacts)
