Nope! The IT office already has filters in place to stop these kinds of emails from getting to you, but sometimes certain emails will get through, especially if a legitimate email is compromised. The best course of action is to report the email as phishing or spam through Gmail, as demonstrated in the video and the links below. This will prevent the emails from going to other users inboxes.
Only notify the IT office if you responded to one of these emails and gave out personal or university information.
What is Phishing?
A phishing email is a message sent with malicious intent to steal money and/or personal information. The sender will use scare tactics or social engineering to try and trick you into disclosing personal information such as;
Your Username and/or Password
Your Social Security Number
Credit Card Numbers
These messages will often have a sense of urgency or timeline that you need to meet to keep you from dissecting the message content and react quickly. If a message seems suspicious stop and read the email carefully.
*IT Services employees will never ask you to disclose your password or Social Security Number.*

What is Spam?
Spam is much less threatening that Phishing, but can be equally as annoying. Spam messages are typically advertisements trying to get you to purchase something. These can be in the form of several emails over time, or a single message.
