Microsoft 365 Account Creation

The Microsoft office apps are a great way to take a Power Point with you to present, finish up a Word document on the go, or look over that Excel spreadsheet one last time before your meeting. But, if you want to be able to edit any of these files, you will need to sign into/create an Office 365 account.

Through Microsoft we are able to offer free Microsoft Office 365 Suite to our Faculty, Staff, and Students once you sign up for a Microsoft 365 account with your CUI email. Follow the instructions below to sign up for your office 365 account.

Step 1:

Click on this link to go to the Office365 website. Once the page loads, enter you CUI email in the text box (shown below) then click "Get Started".

Step 2:

Next, you will select the corresponding option. Students select "I'm a Student", and Faculty/Staff select "I'm a teacher".

After this, a message will be sent to your CUI email with instructions on how to finish setting up your account. Once you finish with those steps, you can sign in here.

Step 3:

Once you attempt to sign in, Microsoft will ask for "more information". This step is asking you to set up 2-step verification on your account.

Click on "Next" to get started.

Step 4:

On this page, click on "I want to use a different authenticator app".

For the easiest setup, we will use the Google Authenticator app instead of the recommended Microsoft one.

Step 5:

Install the Google Authenticator app on your phone either via the App Store or the Play Store and open it when finished. In the Google Authenticator app, hit "Scan a QR code". With your phone, scan the QR code that appears on the computer screen. A 6-digit code will appear on your phone. Click next on the QR code screen to proceed.

Step 6:

Enter the 6-digit code that appears on your phone. Google Authenticator will show a timer next to the code that will cycle the code every time it runs out. If you run out of time, just enter the new code that appears.

Step 7:

Click next and a success message will appear confirming that the code was correct. Your Microsoft account has now been successfully verified. Hit done to finish up.

Step 8:

Once you have successfully signed in, you will now have access to all of the Office 365 apps!

To be able to use these applications offline, we highly recommend installing them. You can do this by clicking on the "Install Apps" button and then selecting "Microsoft 365 apps". This will download a program to your computer that you will need to open to install the Office suite to your device.

Microsoft provides further instructions on the installation process after you click on the "Install apps" button.
